Docs in Board View displays a Workdoc in a Board View.

Features

  • Get control: Only board owners can add or change Workdocs.
  • Show multiple docs: One board can have multiple views, each with their own specific Workdoc.
  • Streamlined viewing: Workdocs are displayed in a clean, read-only mode - no editing controls clutter the screen!
  • Doc permissions respected: Workdoc data will never leak to viewers who shouldn’t see it - monday.com Workdoc access modes are enforced.

You Should Know:

  • You must be a board owner to add a Workdoc view.
  • If a viewer can’t normally see the Workdoc, they won’t be able to see it in the board view. You can link public, private, or shareable Workdocs to a board view. Normal monday.com permissions are respected and the viewer must be invited to the Workdoc if it’s private or shareable.
  • Most Workdoc blocks are supported, but not all of them. Some blocks are in development and some are not presently possible with monday constraints. See this list of supported blocks.
  • 3rd party apps are not supported.

What It Does

If you’ve adopted monday.com Workdocs for your documentation needs, you’ve probably wished that it was easier to reference those documents from a board.

Sure, you can attach docs to rows in a column, but that’s not really what you’re looking for, is it?

You want to be able to have Guidelines, SOPS, Policies and Procedures, Instructions, and other docs in easy reach of your board so that collaborators can easily reference your most important documents.

And that’s exactly what Docs in Board View does!

Now you can embed Workdocs in their own view so that board doumentation is next to the board.

You can do that, too!

Docs in Board View You can even add multiple Workdoc views to a single board!

How To Use It

Docs in Board View is designed to be easy to use - you might figure it out just by using it!

But just in case, here are some instructions:

How To Access It

You must be a board owner to link a Workdoc to a board.

1) First add a new view by clicking the “+” button:

2) Find the “Apps” item in the menu and click it.

3) Find “Docs in Board View” and click it.

4) You’re in!! Go to the next section below (How To Add a Workdoc to a View).

How to Add a Workdoc to a View

Once you’ve accessed Docs in Board View (directions above), you can immediately add a Workdoc. Here’s how:

1) Create the Workdoc that you want to link. Remember the name (or part of it).

2) Click the “Select Workdoc” button.

3) This brings up the settings for this view. Find the search box.

4) Enter at least three letters of the name of a Workdoc.

The search will list matching Workdocs. It’ll also display the Workdoc creator, date, and workspace to help you pick the correct Workdoc.

5) Click one of the Workdocs and it will immediately become visible in the view!

6) As a finishing touch, change the name of the view by clicking the “…” next to the view’s name.

You can also delete the view if it isn’t necessary anymore.

1) First click the gear icon in the upper right.

This will bring up information on the view.

2) Click the “Select Document” tab.

This will bring up the panel where you originally configured the view.

3) You have two options:

  1. Click the unlink button to unlink the Workdoc.
  2. Click in the search box to search for another document.

4) And you’re done! You have changed or unlinked the Workdoc.

Settings and Workdoc Information

You can easily see what Workdoc is linked, change it, or even click directly to the Workdoc editing interface.

Find the two icons in the upper right of a Workdoc view (these icons won’t appear unless you’ve selected a Workdoc).

  • The document icon (on the left) will open a new tab to the Workdoc.
  • The gear icon (on the right) will open the settings and information panel.

Things You Should Know

To make working with Docs in Board View as smooth as possible, you should know the following things:

You must be a board owner to link a Workdoc to a board view.

Who can view a linked Workdoc?

If a viewer can’t normally see the Workdoc, they won’t be able to see it in the board view.

You can link public, private, or shareable Workdocs that you own.

Normal monday.com permissions are respected:

The viewer must be invited to the Workdoc if it’s private or shareable.

My Workdoc doesn’t show up when I search for it.

Try refreshing the view by clicking to your board. Then click your Workdoc view again.

My Workdoc view has an outdated Workdoc.

Supported Workdoc Blocks

Not all Workdoc blocks are currently supported. We’re working on supporting more blocks and requesting changes to the monday.com API to enable more blocks.

3rd party apps are not supported.
